Listen in to this lively conversation about architecture, culture and belonging, with Rua Hashlamoun and Felicity Sando, recorded at the Adelaide Spring Salon in 2019.

Our conversationalists for this session are Adelaide architects Felicity Sando and Rua Hashlamoun. Felicity is a co-founder of Mulloway Studio, and at the time of this conversation Rua was an associate at Hames Sharley and also involved in the visual arts. She has since moved to Brown Falconer, also as an associate.

Felicity and Rua discuss their experiences of culture and connection to the landscape of Adelaide. The women bring varied perspectives – Rua talks about how her Palestinian heritage has shaped her understanding of displacement and home, and Felicity reflects on her multi-generational Adelaidian heritage. Exploring the effects that travel, salsa dancing and olive picking have had on their practice, this discussion suggests we can create a home anywhere.

This session from the 2019 Adelaide Spring Salon was recorded live on Kaurna Country at the Caroma Studio on 30 October 2019. Organised by Ali McFadyen, it was supported by Parlour Partner AWS. Photographs Benjamin Liew.
