Picking up the Baton
In Picking up the Baton, Sarah and Danièle share their roles and experiences as practitioners, advocates and as translators between and among cultures. They yarn about their motivations for establishing Deadly Djurumin and creating a place to support Indigenous women in the built environment professions.
The conversation is lively, frank and wide-ranging, and grounded in the experiences of Indigenous women built environment professionals. Topics include gendered spaces, the importance of early engagement within projects, mentorship, how to be an excellent accomplice, and how to work respectfully with Country, community, culture and Indigenous knowledges. Caring for the health and wellbeing of Country is a dominant theme, with the audience invited to consider their own relationship with Country.
The live audience thanked Sarah and Danièle for their generosity and openness, for “raising hidden voices for the greater good of Country” and inviting others on the journey to greater understanding and reconciliation.
