Living Together: architecture in multicultural communities

LAB 07 brings together two speakers who research architecture in multicultural communities at two different scales  – Dr Kelum Palipane of the University of Melbourne, and Maram Shaweesh of the University of Queensland.

Kelum and Maram begin with short presentations on their work. They then join Kali Marnane and Amanda Achmadi in a discussion about the many ways in which architecture reflects and influences culture, and strategies for inviting and supporting connections among and across cultures.

  • Kelum Palipane – Sense of Place, Habits of Citizenry: how cultural diversity can inform design
  • Maram Shaweesh – Housing multicultural Australia: challenges and opportunities
