Watch this special Deadly Djurumin Yarn for NAIDOC Week. Danièle Hromek and Sarah Lynn Rees explore the joy and the complexities of working with Elders, and the complexities of NAIDOC Week itself.

Purchase access to the full recording via Vimeo on demand below (+ CPD).

Danièle Hromek on what it means to be an Elder.

The NAIDOC Week theme for 2023 is ‘For our Elders’. Elders are not just older people; they are a prominent part of First Nations peoples’ lives, as guides, mentors, advocates, and Knowledge Holders of Country. Elders were often the activists and leaders in their generation, but also the quiet achievers who got things done in the background. The Deadly Djurumin love their Elders and have been fortunate to work with them in a variety of projects.

This yarn addresses the joy and complexities of working with First Nations Elders and community members, along with NAIDOC Week itself and the opportunities and complexities this celebration can bring for our work.

Sarah Lynn Rees on the background and origins of NAIDOC Week.
