Only about a quarter of the registered architects in Australia are women. The number of women practising architecture is much smaller than the number who qualify. Then the numbers drop even further when women rise – or don’t rise – to senior roles. A new research project is looking at women who are succeeding, those working in large firms and getting to the top. While not a lot of women are at the top, insight into how they are getting there, and then what it is like, offers a new professional horizon and hope for women in architecture. What is going on and why?
