Watch the first session in our new series, Parlour Talks. We kick off with a discussion about data as a means to measure (in)equity and as a catalyst for action. Mary Wooldridge and Merilyn Speiser join Justine Clark and Alison McFadyen for a close look at the WGEA data, an expansive conversation about what it all means and practical strategies for change.

Data in Practice

Data has been at the core of Parlour’s work since the beginning. The shock of data is a powerful catalyst for action, while the patterns revealed through analysis help light the way forward.

First released in 2024, the pay gap data published by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) sent another shockwave through the profession. Gathered together, the data submitted by reporting practices in 2024 and 2025 is another source of sunlight and transparency; a gift for those who care about equity. The pay gap data offers a broad index of (in)equity and power imbalance. It is accompanied by a wealth of information about participation, policy inclusions and protocols in reporting organisations – the core material that supports progress towards equity.

So, what does all this data mean, and how can it be put to work? We are joined by Mary Wooldridge, CEO of the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, and Merilyn Speiser, HR specialist and founder of Catalina Consultants for a lively discussion about the value of data, benchmarking and tracking.

We discuss the importance of transparency, the role of data as a catalyst and guide for action and the resources available. We will explore what the WGEA data means for reporting practices, and will consider how this knowledge can also be activated in other, smaller practices and the profession more broadly.

Watch now to learn about resources and advice for reducing pay gaps in practices of all sizes, how to improve your practice pay gap and what employees can do to highlight the issue and help make change.

The episode of Parlour Talks was recorded live on 5 June, 2025.
