We were delighted to host an conversation across the country for the Online Autumn Salon in 2021 with Ellen Buttrose and Sarah Aldridge. Watch their engaging discussion about their work, regional commitments and lives in architecture. This session is available as a podcast and as video.

Our conversationalists for this cross-country episode are architects Ellen Buttrose and Sarah Aldridge. Sarah is a director of Space Studio in Byron Bay, while Ellen zoomed in from POD in Cairns.

This grounding conversation details the benefits and occasional challenges of working in regional practice. Sarah and Ellen discuss the constant influence of Indigenous and migrant histories, and of climate and working in environments where you must always think about sustainability. These committed regionalists explore the importance of developing strong connections with the natural environment, meaning it cannot possibly be ignored during designing.

Hosted by the University of Melbourne, this session from the 2021 Online Autumn Salon was recorded live on Zoom in April 2021. Organised by Ali McFadyen and Emma Healy, it was supported by Parlour Partner AWS.
