A new exhibition, Women In Design, celebrates the contribution female designers make to Melbourne’s built environment, product design and the manufacturing industry.

The exhibition profiles creative leaders from architecture, furniture design, graphic design, industrial design, interior design, landscape architecture, textile design, visual art and interdisciplinary design. It seeks to give visitors an insight into the design and development process through the presentation of plans, renderings and photographs of built projects. Scale models will sit alongside textiles, homewares, furniture, lighting and videos of projects in development.

Contributing designers are: Celina Clarke, Debbie Ryan, Helen Kontouris, Helen Watts, Jenny Underwood, Kerstin Thompson, Kirsten Bauer, Leah Heiss, Leanne Zilka, Michaela Webb, Penelope Lee, Simone LeAmon, Sue Carr and Susan Hewitt. All have been asked to delve into their catalogue of work to feature projects which tell the story of their careers.

The exhibition will also include floor talks by participating designers and a historical component in support of the tradition of women’s contribution to our built environment.

Presented by the Design Institute of Australia Victoria Tasmania Branch, the exhibition is curated by Daniella Casamento as a satellite event of Melbourne Now.

When: 11–22 February 2014, Tuesday to Friday 11am–5pm, Saturday 12pm–4pm
