The University of Newcastle is receiving applications for the Professor of Architecture position, seeking an inspiring educator and researcher who will lead, mentor and support the small but dynamic Architecture team. Applications close on 21 October.

SABE courtyard, University of Newcastle

In addition to being apart of the community of academic leaders in the School of Architecture, Built Environment and the University of Newcastle as a whole, the ideal candidate is a scholar and/or practitioner with acclaimed work within the broad theme of ‘Designing Resilient Communities’, specifically in relation to Architecture and Design. Their contributions should be impactful, meaningful, and embrace communities and regions outside of the purely academic context.

The discipline of Architecture at the University of Newcastle is committed to regional urbanism, the challenges of working in an age of climatic crisis, and of thinking with Indigenous practitioners and communities in working with Country. Many of the central challenges of our time can be seen in the local region of Newcastle and the Hunter, where global issues of energy transition, climate justice and social inequity are being played out. The University of Newcastle’s location provides a unique opportunity to explore the role of architecture in the re-imagination of Australia’s regions.

The Professor is a recognised global leader in the discipline of Architecture and has international standing in research through design practice. The School is looking for a Professor who can demonstrate exceptionally distinguished scholarly achievements and will, in turn, be recognised as an eminent international authority in their discipline. If successful, you will have the opportunity to develop, coordinate and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as well as undertake business development and recruitment of international and domestic HDR students. You will mentor academic staff to develop the School’s collective research profile and lead the School’s thematic research area of Design Research, adopting an interactive learning environment focused on real world issues.

Applications close on Monday, 21 October at 11.59pm AEST.
