The Alastair Swayn Foundation is seeking applicants for the second round of its 2020 research grants program.

Three grant types are being offered to support individuals, groups and organisations in architecture and design associated industries to conduct research that enriches Australian design knowledge and culture.
The aim of the Foundation is to provide an opportunity for those in Australian architecture and design related industries to conduct research in their chosen field. It also aims to reward proven achievement of talented and deserving Australians with further opportunity in their pursuit of excellence for the enrichment of knowledge in architecture and all design disciplines in Australia.

Research Grants $2,000
Research Grants are awarded to successful applicants to conduct research that aligns with the Foundation’s Guiding Principles. The Foundation accepts a broad scope of ideas across architecture and design related disciplines, provided it demonstrates a willingness to share research outcomes with the public in accordance with the Open Access Policy.
Strategic Grants $5,000
The Strategic Grants support research that seeks to address one of the key issues confronting Australian architecture and design. The Foundation has identified four areas of priority research in architecture and design. The priorities are designed to focus support for innovation and research on the most important challenges facing architecture and design in Australia.
The priority topics are:
- Sustainability
- Bushfire resilient design
- Housing (public, private, multi-residential)
- Workplace design
Alastair Swayn International Research Grant $15,000
In honour of Alastair Swayn AO, this annual grant was launched on the anniversary of his death. The grant is aimed at supporting overseas travel and learning opportunities for progressive research that demonstrates a strong ability to share outcomes for the benefit of the Australia design community.
Shortlisted interviews will be held between 5–9 October 2020.
