Secret PM Business

Like architects, the power of a good project manager is bound up in good relationships. The challenges are also similar – resourcing, knowledge transfer. So, what can we learn from project managers responsible for Indigenous projects? What tips and tricks do they have to offer architects and other built environment professionals?

This yarn explores the powers that project managers bring – both actual and authorised. It will examine how they can use these powers for good in an environment where the incentives that usually motivate project managers’ work may be counter to the interests of Country. Where, for example, does Country sit in relation to the time/cost/quality triangle? What needs to be unlearned and relearned? What does self determination look like in built environment processes?

Sarah Lynn Rees yarns about all of this with Alex Kennedy, Infrastructure Lead of the First Peoples State Relations Group in the Victorian Department of Premier & Cabinet, and Thomas Klobucar, Project Director in the Division of Infrastructure and Commercial at Western Sydney University.
