We are super excited to be heading to Newcastle for the city’s first ever Parlour Salon. Join us for fantastic, energetic conversation with Natalie Galea and Sam Spurr. Book now for Friday 9 August.
The Salon is hosted by the University of Newcastle and we are delighted to welcome Natalie Galea and Sam Spurr as our first ever Newcastle conversationalists. Both are super smart, witty and opinionated. Both bring fascinating, wide-ranging experiences and interests to the Salon stage.
Sam is Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Newcastle. She is an architectural theorist, critic and designer who focuses on the agency of architecture and the need for disciplinary transformation in a rapidly changing world. Her current research examines Mining Ideology and Coal Capitalism. Through this, she explores feminist theories of care and collective political subjectivity, ecological systems and Indigenous cosmologies in the Australian context of Country.
Natalie is an expert in gender justice and human rights in the construction sector and human rights in elite sport. She has undertaken major research projects on gender equality in the construction sector, construction work schedules, and LGBTQ+ workers in construction. Before turning her attention to research, she spent nearly two decades as a project manager delivering building, civil, defence and mining projects in Australia and the Middle East and North Africa. And she is an Olympian too!
This will be an extraordinary conversation!
Sam and Natalie will set the scene, then it is over to you – catch up with friends and colleagues, meet new people, build new networks and revive older ones. And simply enjoy the company of some of the great people of the Newcastle built environment, all over refreshments.
