Initiated in 2019, the AASA Education Prize seeks to “celebrate, reward and disseminate innovative learning and teaching practices, that speak to the specific and exceptional culture of architectural education in our region.”

This year, the Prize focuses on teaching practices that support student wellbeing, and is aligned with the the culmination of the Wellbeing of Architects: Culture, Identity + Practice” research project. The 2024 prize is open to all academics who have demonstrated leadership in fostering positive cultures in architectural education and student wellbeing support.

The overall winner will receive a $1,000 prize. Up to four finalists will receive funding to travel to a public exhibition, presentation and launch of their work at the University of Queensland in October 2024 as a part of the AASA annual general meeting.

This is a great opportunity to share what has worked – and Parlour will work with the AASA to ensure recognised work gets a wide audience.

Submissions should outline innovative approaches to pedagogy, curriculum or cultural engagement, with evidence to demonstrate a positive impact on wellbeing experiences for students and educators in architecture. This should include a maximum 1000-word statement outlining the context the applicant is operating in, detailing the challenges that have been identified and addressed, and a reflection of these processes. Submissions should also include images, diagrams, and may also include interactive content. Further guidelines on submissions are outlined in the EOI document.

This prize is open to all architectural academic staff – full-time, fractional or sessional – and must be endorsed and supported by the Head of School. Activities commenced after 1 March 2020 and concluded by 1 July 2024 are eligible.

The deadline for submissions is 15 July 2024 at 5 pm AEST.
