November 20: On: Collaboration

Kerstin Thompson, Architect, Kerstin Thompson Architects
MUMA, an award-winning museum for contemporary art is an innovative project that synthesises many ideas from different stakeholders – including professors, students, curators and industry professionals. The ongoing success of this project was made possible through cohesive and collaborative input from this diverse array of sources.
But what does collaboration actually mean? More importantly, how can this approach lead to better architecture, that as a consequence leads to an improved student experience? How do partnerships make a long lasting difference towards the creation and strengthening of our communities?
Join architect Kerstin Thompson and client expert Sylvia Hadjiantoniou as they reflect on their working relationship. Together they will explore how collaboration enabled the revitalisation of Monash University’s Caulfield campus through the transformation of an under-utilised 1960’s building and carpark into MUMA, a leading museum which integrates art with daily campus life to offer an enriched student experience.
