Parlour has two excellent event series that we would like more people to know about and access – Parlour LAB and On the Verandah.
To encourage the Parlour Collective to explore these series we are offering free access to one session per series in the lead up to the end of the financial year. Find out more below and use the codes today!

Parlour LAB offers fantastic insight into the world of research, bringing new knowledge and findings to the wider professional community. In each session two scholarly researchers present and discuss their work, followed by discussions with our fabulous convenors which explore what all of it might mean in the world of practice. There are 36 sessions available, on a wide range of topics – from the pragmatic to the poetic, the experimental to the esoteric. There is something here for everyone. Start exploring!

Parlour LAB is convened by Kali Marnane, Rebecca McLaughlan and Katti Williams. Previous convenors are Macarena de la Vega de León, Kelum Palipane and Amanda Achmadi.

On the Verandah is an extraordinary set of discussions exploring equity from the perspective of multicultural practitioners. These are intimate, open, generous conversations on topics that are rarely spoken about publicly in Australian architecture.
Topics explored include the benefits that multicultural perspectives bring, how to shape a career and advocate for yourself, the power and potential of allyship, and overcoming the hurdle of ‘local experience’ when job-hunting.

On the Verandah highlights the value of cultural background and intercultural literacy – within practice and beyond – and creates a space for discussions that focus on increasing access and opportunity for practitioners who are marginalised in multiple ways. It is a forum for both speculative discussion and practical advice, and aims to catalyse actionable change within the architecture community.
These are vital conversations. We strongly encourage employers, managers and team leaders to engage with this series. Some of the conversations might be confronting in places – but experiencing this discomfort, and acting on it, is essential if we are to become a profession that truly values diversity and is genuinely inclusive. This is another area that must have leadership from the top, as well as action and support on the ground!
It was interesting. heartbreaking, constructive and hopeful all at the same time.

On the Verandah is convened by Debjani Sarkar and Lameesa Yousuf.
CPD
Formal CPD for all Parlour events is obtained by completing the questions associated with the session. These open-ended questions invite participants to reflect on what they have heard and consider how this knowledge might be put to work in their own professional circumstances.
Refer to session descriptions and the series learning objectives.
