Take the IBEA survey today! Submissions close 14 March.

The Indigenising the Built Environment research project is calling for all working in the built environment in Australia to take the survey as part of the larger research program investigating the efficacy of the First Nations performance criteria in the National Standard of Competency for Architects 2021 (NSCA) (NSCA 2021).

Led by Dr Michael Mossman (Kuku Yalanji) and Professor Donald McNeill, Indigenising the Built Environment in Australia is exploring how current practices in built environment disciplines, such as architecture, are interacting with Country and First Nations Communities and Cultural Practices.

The large ARC-funded research project will investigate the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia’s (AACA) National Standard of Competency for Architects 2021 (NSCA). This document details performance criteria for schools of architecture and practitioners in Australia. Carefully developed by the Australian Institute of Architects First Nations Advisory Group and Cultural Reference Panel, the AACA introduced Country and First Nations Communities and Cultures as core components to learning and practice implementation.

Through the survey and conversations with key stakeholders across a variety of research engagements and scales, the team aims to assess the efficacy of the First Nations performance criteria and gather insights to help refine future standards for 2025, 2026, and beyond.

For more information about the research project, visit the Indigenising the Built Environment in Australia website. Remember, the survey closes on Friday 14 March.
