Join Debjani Sarkar and Lameesa Yousuf On the Verandah for a conversation about developing skills and knowledge, understanding registration pathways and creating a career – with Badru Ahmed, Kavita Gonsalves and Daniela Silva.

Work in progress

The third session of On the Verandah explores the life-long process of developing skills and knowledge, building competency and the many and varied ways of charting a career – from the perspectives of immigrant practitioners.

Join Debjani Sarkar and Lameesa Yousuf for an important conversation with Badru Ahmed, Kavita Gonsalves and Daniela Silva.

What inequities and barriers are experienced by immigrants and culturally diverse women seeking careers in architecture and the built environment professions? What opportunities can be found, and where? How can colleagues, practices and professional bodies help? What are the pathways to registration and does registration matter? What is the role of education? What kinds of activities can help immigrants land their first professional role in a new country? What are the possibilities beyond and alongside traditional practice roles?

Our three panellists bring a broad range of experience and expertise, stories and strategies to this important topic. See you On the Verandah for another invigorating conversation!

On the Verandah highlights the value of cultural background and intercultural literacy, within practice and beyond, and to create a space for discussions that focus on increasing access and opportunity for practitioners who are marginalised in multiple ways. This platform is a reminder to those who may feel under-represented within practice that they are not alone and that there is a way forward through advocating for each other.
