We are incredibly excited to present this a remarkable conversation with Sarah Lynn Rees and Elisapeta Heta, chaired by Georgia Birks.

Elisapeta is Principal and Kaihautū Whaihanga (Māori Design Leader) at Jasmax in Aotearoa New Zealand. She leads Waka Māia, founded in 2015 to provide a Māori design voice within the practice. Sarah is Associate and leads  Indigenous Advisory Architecture and Design (IAAD) at Jackson Clements Burrows in Melbourne. They both combine these significant practice roles with an enormous amount of advocacy in wider professional and public contexts.

Together, these extraordinary women have unparalleled experience in introducing and fostering Indigenous design knowledges within established mainstream architectural practice. How did these roles come about? How have the developed and what have they enabled? What do they mean for Indigenous clients and communities? How have the practices adapted and changed as a result? What have these positions meant for Elisapeta and Sarah? What are the challenges and where are the opportunities? What advice can they offer to others looking to make meaningful and impactful change from the inside? We have so many questions and there is so much to learn from these wonderful women.
