Alastair Swayn grants program – round two

The Alastair Swayn Foundation is currently accepting online applications for Round Two of their grants program, which aims to find a wide range of architecture and design projects. Applications close Monday 20 September.

Since launching in 2020, the Alastair Swayn Foundation grants program has supported the research of early, mid-career and established professionals and academics working in the built environment. All research supported by the grants program is made publicly available on the Swayn Open Research repository for the benefit of the Australian architecture and design community.

This digital repository of papers, eBooks, podcasts and virtual exhibitions contains research examining issues from the future of housing for young Australians (Sibling Architecture), engagement with architectural services in bushfire affected communities (Callum Andrews), to exploring Australia’s rich history of industrial design (Ian Wong).

Research Grants $2000

Research Grants award funds to research projects across architecture and design related disciplines. These include architecture, landscape architecture, industrial design, heritage preservation/restoration, adaptive re-use (architecture, product design), and designing for accessibility. Proposals must align with one or more of the Foundation’s Guiding Principles.

Strategic Grants $5000

Strategic Grants are designed to focus support for innovation and research on critical challenges facing architecture and design in Australia. The Foundation has identified three priority areas of research in architecture and design. Projects should align with one or more of our Foundation Objectives.

The priority topics are:

Sustainability
Housing (public, private, multi-residential)
Workplace design

Successful grantees will have their research paper or equivalent output made available on Swayn Open Research as an open access resource for the benefit of the architecture and design community.
