Ayla is an accomplished and adept graduate of architecture with a deep passion for designing spaces that carefully consider spatial efficiency and occupancy. Throughout her academic and professional career, has been focused on the ways in which we occupy land and inhabit buildings, striving to create innovative and sustainable solutions for improving housing.

During her studies, Ayla's thesis research was focused on small dwellings as an alternative housing practice in New Zealand. This research earned her a Master of Architecture with Honours and subsequently she was selected as one of twelve finalists countrywide in the 2017 New Zealand Institute of Architects Student Design Awards. Ayla later presented as a speaker at the Architectural Designers New Zealand conference, exhibited in the 2019 Making Ways Exhibition and was a finalist in the 2019 Best Design Awards. She has continued promoting awareness and education around a more sustainable approach to design through her continued involvement with the University of Auckland as a design critique.

Throughout her career, Ayla has honed her skills both locally in Meanjin on Turrbal and Jagera country and abroad in Aotearoa. This experience has given her a comprehensive understanding of the varying built and natural environments and the unique challenges each presents. Ayla strives to continue to advocate for a more sustainable future and aspirations to care for country through a deep belief that we can always do better – as an individual, as a community, and in our role as an architect. She is a driven and talented professional who is committed to creating spaces that enhance the lives of those who inhabit them.
