Livia Lazzaro Rezende
Postgraduate Coordinator, PhD Supervisor and Lecturer in Design History & TheorySchool of Art & Design, UNSW Art, Design & Architecture Faculty
I am that rare type of academic who has a practice background. A trained graphic designer, for the last 20 years I have 'practiced' Design History and am an experienced PhD supervisor. I work as Postgraduate Coordinator at the School of Art & Design, UNSW Sydney, on the lands of the Bidjigal and Gadigal peoples of the Eora nation.
Brazilian born and recently arrived in Australia via London, I bring a passion for researching, writing, and disseminating non-canonical, feminist-led design and architectural histories. I have a sustained track record of publications on the professionalisation and education of modern design and architecture in Latin America. My award-winning research also investigates the contentious formation of national identities through International Exhibitions and World’s Fairs, with a focus on and raw materials’ displays. I approach these subjects from a coloniality/decoloniality and transnational viewpoint—producing knowledges and methodologies that I wish to disseminate and develop in Australia too.
