Architect | Director | Parlour AccompliceKym Muir Architects
Kym is a registered architect with over 25 years experience in custom and commercial residential, interior and urban design projects locally and internationally.
Based in Perth and the Southwest of WA, Kym Muir Architects specialise in creating casually elegant, timeless and environmentally sensitive coastal homes, rural retreats, and renovations – designed for family life.
Before founding her practice in 2005, Kym was a Principal for an award-winning commercial multi-disciplinary architectural practice in Perth, leading the commercial residential, heritage and urban design business group. Throughout this time, she gained valuable experience on a diverse range of projects from inner city apartments, mixed use commercial to major urban renewal and heritage projects.
Kym firmly believes that quality, well considered sustainable architecture and urban design enhances our everyday well-being, creates a sense of place, and strengthens our sense of belonging and connection within our local communities.
Balancing the demands of her own small practice while raising three children has also given her a clear insight into the challenges and opportunities parenthood presents for many architects in our profession.
Kym is committed to improving the information, support networks and mentoring available to progress the retention and success of women in architecture and promote the value of fostering a more flexible, equitable and diverse architecture profession across all levels of practice.
She is fortunate to be able to contribute on the current National Committee for Gender Equity for the Australian Institute of Architects and collaborate locally within the WA Chapter as a Chapter Councillor, Co-chair for the Gender Equity Taskforce and member for the Honours Committee. From 2006 – 2011 Kym also contributed as a Board Examiner for the Architects Board of Western Australia.
