Tiana-Jane Furner-McBeath

Associate / Architect
BVN

Tiana-Jane Furner, is an Associate at BVN Architecture and is one of Australia’s first registered female Aboriginal Architects, a proud Gomeroi and Wiradjuri Yinnar. Tiana has built her career on a profound commitment to socially conscious and community-centred design.

This passion was further honed at the University of New South Wales, where she specialised in Social Agency during her Master’s degree. Her studies focused on designing with a humanitarian lens, addressing challenges such as social displacement and creating spaces that foster inclusion and stronger communities, while mentoring First Nations students through UNSW Nura Gili programs.

Tiana’s dedication has taken her from Norway, where she researched Thoughtful Prison Design through a Byera Hadley Travel Scholarship, to Cambodia, where she built bamboo homes for disadvantaged communities. Now based in Brisbane, Tiana worked on prominent projects such as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Gallery and UTS Indigenous Residential College Master Plan and has recently became a member of the EmAGN Queensland committee, advocating for emerging architects and championing design that enhances public life.
