Tiana-Jane Furner-McBeath
Graduate of ArchitectureBVN
My name is Tiana-Jane Furner and I am an Aboriginal Woman whom currently resides between Gomeroi and Gadgial Country. After completing my UNSW Masters in Architecture specialising in Social Agency stream, I have spent the last 2 years working as a Graduate at Architecture BVN. One of many highlights since starting my career has been working with Aboriginal Architect and BVN Principal Kevin O'Brien. I also enjoy teaching and have spent multiple years tutoring at the University of New South Wales.
In compliments to my architectural background, I have a strong interest in social issues and supporting Indigenous communities. This includes
- Building bamboo homes Cambodia for those displaced and relocated from their communities.
- Receiving the 2018 Byera Hadley Travel Scholarship for my thesis on; How can architecture reduce the re-offending rate for those impacted by Australia's Justice System?
- Mentoring Indigenous High School students whom are interested in attaining a tertiary degree in Architecture, and
- Working as an Indigenous Research Assistant. Travelling across NSW interviewing chronically ill Indigenous patients.
These experiences have allowed me to build a strongly sensitive and aware approach to my architecture, and has allowed me to become a confident communicator among peers and clients.
