Laura Georgina Smith
Architect and UrbanistI am a British Architect (ARB) and urbanist with a multi-disciplinary background in furniture, sculpture, set design, research, education and engagement.
I am interested in the negotiation between people and the built environment, and how detail, material and craft can be used to create lasting conversations around belonging, identity and place. Drawing on my own experience, I am particularly interested in the intersections between cross-cultural backgrounds, queer culture and feminist theory.
I am a graduate of The Bartlett and the Royal College of Art, London. A former British Council Lina Bo Bardi Research Fellow in Brazil, my research explored design as a tool for social and cultural inclusion.
I am the co-founder of Make Do & Draw (2011-2015), an art/architecture practice with a focus on public participation and performance in the city.
I currently work as a researcher and artist, as well as a sessional tutor at the Melbourne School of Design.
