Rosa Douramanis

Rosa is Director at biotope architecture.interiors, a small, Hobart-based architectural practice specialising in environmentally responsible, small-scale commercial projects, high-end houses, interior renovations, heritage, alterations and additions. Rosa has over twenty years’ experience in commercial, educational, health and residential projects having worked for Edwards Madigan Torzillo Briggs, Bligh Jessup Robinson, Alex Kostromin, Philp Lighton Architects, Crawford Shurman Architects, Cumulus, Terroir, Senior Architect with GHD in Hobart, and Hobart City Council. She studied at the UTS and the University of Sydney completing her degree at the University of Tasmania (UTAS). Rosa was co-director at MGA.I for four and a half years before seeing a new direction and establishing biotope architecture.interiors as her practice.
Rosa became an active member and vice president of NAWIC when officially launched in Hobart in 1997. She has been a casual tutor at the UTAS in 2015 and 2016 for the Building Technology in Design 5 and the interiors lighting and acoustics modules. Rosa has also completed a Certificate IV in the Conservation of Cultural Heritage Places and the Conservation of Heritage Buildings.
Rosa has an interest in creating designs for extant buildings and greenfield sites, that make a real and timeless contribution to the local environment; inspired by the immediate and larger context of pattern, material and light. Rosa places much importance on a collaborative working relationship with clients throughout the design and construction phases of a project and is also currently working on selective pro bono for newly arrived migrants with limited means. Rosa is a member of the AIA.
