Aparna Datey

Teaching Academic
University of Queensland, Queensland Institute of Technology

A higher education researcher and educator Aparna Datey has experience as a practicing architect, academic and career advisor, and researcher. She has worked and taught in India, Switzerland, United States, and Australia. Her expertise is in pedagogy, practice-based research, and research-based teaching that decolonizes design education. Her interest in material cultures, identity, and work practices has included research projects on cultural production and identity in colonial and post-colonial India. It has led to her doctoral research focusing on behavioural dimensions of studio teaching practices and identity of casual academics which emphasises the complexity of individual work and teaching practices within institutional and disciplinary cultures. She believes that integration of research into education and profession is key to design practices that are responsive to imminent issues facing the world today and underscoring the relevance of architects in collaborative practices.

I am also deeply interested in writing about belonging and write a blog based on my personal experiences: https://inbetweengoodchaos.wordpress.com/
