Dr Zuzana Kovar teaches in the Architecture Discipline, Griffith University. She is the convenor of 2nd year design in the Bachelor program, and the convenor of contemporary architectural theory in the 1st year of the Master program. She also supervises theses in the 2nd year of the Master program and PhD students. Her research focuses on the relations within and between bodies and spaces drawing on the philosophy of Julia Kristeva and process philosophers such as Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. More broadly she is interested in conversations around bodies and spaces within the fields of architecture, philosophy, art and film. Her monograph, Architecture in Abject(ion): Bodies, Spaces and their Relations (London: I.B. Tauris, 2017) focuses on developing an expanded version of Julia Kristeva’s notion of abjection as a way of arriving at a processual understanding of bodies and spaces.

In 2013, she was part of the joint-exhibition, Building Movements at the RMIT Design Hub, Melbourne, within which PhD candidates at the University produced installations in response to the Design Hub by Sean Godsell. In 2016, she held her first solo exhibition, Transfer at A-CH Gallery, West End, consisting of works on paper exploring the transfer of matter from one surface to another. In 2017 she was part of the joint-exhibition, Surfacing, at the Byron School of Art Gallery, Mullumbimby. The exhibition work acts as an extension of the research interests that formed part of her PhD completed at RMIT in 2014.
