Oya Demirbilek
Professor of Industrial DesignUniversity of New South Wales, Faculty of Built Environment
I am an industrial designer and professor at UNSW Built Environment, where I teach and research to shape the next generation of designers. In my teaching, I help industrial design students build confidence, refine their design research, and navigate their Honours projects. In research, I focus on co-design projects exploring aging, design & emotions, product semantics, more than human design, and design education—always with the goal of improving people’s lives. Previously, as Associate Dean of Education (2013–18), I played a key leadership role in enhancing the staff and student experience within the Faculty of Built Environment. Beyond academia, you will find me sketching, drawing, making geometric and beaded jewellery, watching sci-fi, baking, or fixing things.
