Sarah Paddick

Director
Totalspace Design

I have been practicing architecture for over 20 years and am the principal at Totalspace Design, a small architecture and interior design company in Adelaide.

My area of expertise is the specialised field of Secure Facility Architecture. I’ve been part of the team responsible for major upgrades of 6 of South Australia’s prison control rooms, including the award winning Mt Gambier Prison Control Room Building.

I’ve been contracted by other jurisdictions to provide specialist design input into their secure facilities, and have presented at two International Corrections and Prisons Association Conferences and also at four National Prison Planning Conferences, on the integration of security and architecture in secure facilities, Mother and Baby Programs, and Prison Design to encourage children to visit their parents, and women centred design.

I was the 2010 Catherine Helen Spence Memorial Scholarship Recipient – undertaking Research into Mother and Baby Accommodation in Secure Facilities. In 2018 I was part of a collaboration that won an award in the SA Training Awards for a unique program that saw female prisoners gaining education and training on a real live construction site.
