Michelle Blakeley
DirectorMichelle Blakeley, Architect
I came to architecture after a career in advertising as a Writer and Creative Director. That background was responsible for my first job in architecture... writing skills, it seems, are often lacking in architecture graduates! I established my practice five years ago and am now focused on residential and small public projects. In those five years, my focus has very much become the role of the architect in community and low-cost affordable housing. The "My Home" project for housing people who are homeless, based on a PPP model, is a powerful example of how architects can make a far broader contribution to community and social environment beyond built form. Our training in critical thinking gives us a unique problem-solving ability. At the same time, working in this area has impacted the way I explore solutions for all my other projects, exploring contracting the size of housing footprints whilst offering high performing, high amenity, spacious, delightful design outcomes.
