Greta StoutjesdijkSenior Architect
A senior architect with Hassell Studio in Melbourne, Greta has a passion for arts, culture and civic spaces. She sees these areas as the lifeblood of culture and the key to enriching urban space and public experiences.
It might have been a lifelong passion for floor plans that drew her to architecture, but it is how people use the spaces Greta designs that inspires her. Whenever she visits a new city she makes a beeline for the major arts precinct – and the spaces in and around it. She has an enduring fascination for how people use these public spaces, how they enrich the culture in which they reside and how the community forms around them.
In addition to her ‘plan-appreciation’, Greta has a particular interest in sensory perception within architecture and how scent influences architecture and space. She also has a curiosity of scale – from the minute to the gigantic. This drives her to develop detail resolution, exploring rooftops and public spaces to investigate how both of these can return value to the community.
After achieving her qualifications at Victoria University of Wellington, Greta commenced her architectural career in New Zealand before relocating to Melbourne in 2010. She has experience in residential, hospitality, large-scale commercial, arts and culture projects and temporary installations at various stages from conceptual design through to contract administration, working both within leadership or team roles.
